Finding a professional in any market can be overwhelming.

How do you find a real estate agent?

1. You can ask your friends and family for referrals.

2. You can go to an open house in the area and get to know the agent there.

If you're not careful, you could wind up agreeing to list your property with an agent who just finished their real estate classes and has no experience.

Do you go to the one with a beautiful office, which means high overhead costs but also a more professional look? Agents will try to talk you out this because they know, more than likely, with enough time, they can get some activity on your property. Once they have activity, they know you will be happy and when you are happy, they will be able to hold onto the listing a bit longer. You need to remain in control of selling your house. If you want to work with an agent for 6 months, then agree to that. There is no legal or other binding issue that limits you so do what works the best for you and with what you are comfortable.

Real estate hit an all-time high in the past and many agents were able to just get by with doing the minimum because everyone was buying and selling. It was a great time to be in the real estate business yet it also gave the wrong impression to some agents. They began to think that maybe they didn't really have to work as hard or do as much marketing because properties, in the past, moved without it.
