During the real estate rollercoaster of the past several years, the job role of a real estate agent is one that has experienced its own set of problems and misconceptions. A real estate agent is not automatically given the designation of the term Realtor unless they are a member of the National Association of Realtors (NAR). There are local chapters of the association and many agents will use these meetings and functions as a way to network and learn. They can swap stories and learn a lot about your area. They can share various names of reputable companies in the area so if a certain contractor, Title Company, exterminator is needed by a client, they can be the source of knowledge for them. An agent with the designation of Realtor will be held accountable to a higher standard of ethics and education. In order to be in compliance with the group, they must have their education up to date and remain within the legal regulations. If not, this is where disgruntled clients can report poor behavior.

If you are contemplating the benefits of using a real estate agent, you should consider the following aspects to hiring an agent over doing it on your own. It is important to hire a qualified agent, just as in any job field, if you hire someone with little experience or knowledge, your results will not be as positive.
