Renters in foreclosures won’t get evicted

by Oliver 13. January 2009 14:24

After announcing the extension of suspension of foreclosures, mortgage finance giant Fannie Mae said Tuesday it will be allowing renters to stay in their homes even if their landlords enter foreclosure. This is the new policy that will be adopted by Fannie Mae.

The new policy will let tenants of about 4,000 homes to sign new leases with Fannie while the properties are up for sale. Fannie Mae’s chief operating officer, Michael Williams, said in a statement that the new policy should “help bring a measure of stability to communities impacted by high foreclosure rates.”

People are waiting if FreddieMac, another government controlled mortgage giant, will follow suit.
