Construction spending dropped in February for the fifth straight month. The Commerce Department reported that construction activity fell 0.9 percent. Total construction has been falling since October and the level of activity is at its slowest pace in nearly five years.

The 4.3 percent drop in February pushed the construction spending level down to the lowest in 11 years.

The Commerce Department report showed non-residential construction increased 0.3 percent in February coming from January’s 4.3 percent decline which had been the biggest drop in 15 years.
